Happy new year!

Recently during The HOME Show on WLNI radio, we all shared our word of the year. I pondered several words in preparation and chose PERSEVERANCE as my word for 2023. This fits both with my career and time away from the office. Life is constantly throwing challenges and curveballs, which, in hindsight, I know helps to shape me into a stronger and more resilient version of myself. Personally, I also seem to be on a never-ending health and wellness journey and refuse to give up…I will persevere!

As we stroll into 2023, I want to thank our loyal advertisers who continue to support HOME magazine. We currently have more than 250 LOCAL businesses in our HOME family, which includes Central Virginia, Roanoke Valley and Smith Mountain Lake. Readers, please visit these amazing companies and organizations, call upon them, support them! With the ups and downs of the economy, we want our local businesses to persevere and keep offering their fantastic services and goods in these communities.

We also want to show love to our robust nonprofit community. Our nonprofit spotlight this issue features the Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra and Opera on the James. They are joining forces to present an unforgettable performance on April 1 at the Historic Academy Theatre. Visit page 52 to learn more about these talented and gifted organizations.

I’ve also been busy in the kitchen to be able to present to you our three featured recipes for this issue, one pot wonders. Of the three, the coq au vin was my absolute favorite, so much flavor, and absolutely delish! Be sure to check out those recipes and decide for yourself — with less cleanup!

I hope you enjoy this issue as much as we enjoyed putting it together for you! Happy 2023, whatever your word or intention for the year. May we all persevere and make our home and community better in the year to come!
